PLOT : A cop seeks out the truth between two different stories of a crime scene.
MOVIE REVIEW : (No Spoiler) Ittefaq is a decent suspense thriller and a delight for those who love to watch the murder mystery. But the climax of the film is unconvincing for most of the viewers and it was below to the expectations what generally people have with this kind of films.
The movie is inspired from 1969 hit of the same name which was directed by Yash Chopra and starring Rajesh Khanna, Iftekhar and Nanda. Here the story is different and Debutante director Abhay Chopra, grandson of BR Chopra has successfully delivered a good suspense thriller film.
He retains the theme of the original and infuses his own twists and turns to the story. The makers have adopted a no-promotions and no-spoilers approach to the film ahead of its release.
The screenplay of the film is impressive and this gripping whodunit manages to play with the viewers mind which makes them guessing for the murderer. The first half is all about the popular writer Vikram played by Sidharth Malhotra and a homemaker Maya played by Sonakshi Sinha becomes the prime suspects in a double murder of their respective spouses. Police officer Dev played by Akshaye Khanna gets the real truth out when both offer him conflicting versions about the events of that same night.
Second half keeps you entertained throughout and takes you to the awaited climax.
There are some best part in the film, one is there are no songs to distract the audience from the plot and other is when the time you feel the case is solved finally, the actual mystery begins. Also the run time of the is 1 hour and 45 minutes which is quite good for a thriller film.
Sidharth Malhotra looks convincing in his role, his character demands your sympathy which actually works here. Sonakshi Sinha also delivers a good performance.
And Akshaye Khanna is a surprise package as it was clear from the trailer that his role has the more potential. He plays his role effortlessly and there was no dull moment whenever he comes on the screen and acted as a tough investigating cop.
The movie also have a Kimberley Louise McBeath in a limited role as Katherine, the publisher & Sidharth’s wife who also acted in Wrong Side Raju (Gujrati film).
Other supporting cast was just average in their part.
