This Republic Day saw the first big clash of the year 2019 at the box office with Kangana Ranaut’s directorial debut Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi also starring her in the lead and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Thackeray, both hit the theatres on 25th January, 2019.
Both the films had a good start at the Indian box office, Manikarnika began its theatrical run with ₹ 8.75 Crore and emerges as Kangana Ranaut‘s biggest opener, while Thackeray began its theatrical run with ₹ 6 Crore. Manikarnika is performing well in Delhi, UP, Punjab and Rajasthan circuits and collected ₹ 42.55 Crore from its Hindi, Telugu & Tamil versions in India whereas Thackeray is performing well in Maharashtra circuit and managed to collect ₹ 22.90 Crore from its Hindi & Marathi versions in India within 3 days of its release.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi got released in 2900 screens in India and it is made on a budget of ₹ 125 Crore. Thackeray got released in 2000 screens in India and it is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 30 Crore including the Production cost and Prints & Advertising Cost.
