MOVIE REVIEW: Udta Teer is a wacky spy satire with plenty of laughs, its an entertaining espionage satire that finds humour in mistaken identities, patriotic confusion and a series of unexpected revelations. Rather than depending entirely on punchlines, the film builds comedy around absurd situations, creating several genuinely amusing moments. With a fine performance by Ayushmann Khurrana, a surprisingly hilarious Rahul Bose and a scene-stealing late Mukul Dev, the film has plenty to offer.
As a director, Aakash A. Kaushik does a fair job, especially considering that this is his debut feature. Aakash A. Kaushik’s dialogues further enhance the madness, adding to the film’s comic appeal. The background score is effective, becoming appropriately wacky whenever the situations demand an extra dose of absurdity.
However, the film begins to lose its grip after the interval. What initially works as a breezy comedy gradually takes a more serious turn, with the narrative becoming increasingly complicated. The excessive twists, double-crosses and revelations makes the screenplay feel unnecessarily complicated. The uneven execution in the latter half, keeps it from reaching its full potential.
Ayushmann Khurrana delivers a fine performance, bringing his characteristic ease and comic timing to the proceedings. The biggest surprise is Rahul Bose, who delivers one of the funniest performances of his career. The late Mukul Dev is another major highlight and arguably one of the film’s biggest scene-stealers. Ram Kapoor and Gulshan Grover are dependable as always. Suhail Nayyar and Sandeep Anand also deliver entertaining performances. Sara Ali Khan, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar and the rest of the supporting cast are adequate in their limited roles.
