WEB SERIES REVIEW: Ali Abbas Zafar has made a good directorial debut with Amazon Prime Video and delivered the first big offering on the OTT in 2021. The show is packed with an extremely talented and vast star cast. Among all the actors, Sunil Grover is a surprise package and stands out from the lot.
Sunil Grover in his image-changing role as a loyal henchman proved his versatility. The other best performances are from Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub and Dimple Kapadia. Saif Ali Khan gave a decent performance in his second web series. Kumud Mishra and Tigmanshu Dhulia managed to deliver good performances from their limited role. Sarah Jane Dias, Shonali Nagrani, Gauahar Khan, Kritika Kamra, Anuup Sonii, Sandhya Mridul, and Dino Morea are average in the supporting characters.
The writing is ordinary, dialogues are just fine and the screenplay is gripping in bits & pieces. Due to which the makers are failed to deliver compelling political thriller drama. After a few episodes, the screenplay becomes slow & repetitive and the story gets too predictable.
Season one ends at a cliffhanger, the show has many unanswered questions and subplots, probably they will unfold the story in season two in a more engaging way.
A R Rahman’s Dhakka Laga Bukka from Yuva (2004) has been recreated for Tandav and it gives the right feeling to campus politics.
