The upcoming epic action-adventure film is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya. The film’s is based on Philip Meadows Taylor’s 1839 novel Confessions of a Thug, about a thug called Azad, whose gang of thugs posed a serious challenge to the British Empire in India during the early 19th century. The film tells a fictional story set between 1790 and 1805.
The film’s production budget is ₹ 210 Crore (US$29 million), making it the most expensive Yash Raj Films production. Filming commenced on 5th June 2017 in Malta. The film was shot in Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur too. It was also filmed in Thailand and the climax filmed in Rajasthan.
It is set to be released during the week of Diwali, on 8 November 2018.
