MOVIE REVIEW: After Helmet (2021) starring Aparshakti Khurana & Pranutan Bahl, Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer Janhit Mein Jaari (2022), Chhatriwali is the latest Bollywood offering that uses humour to clear a societal taboo.

Chhatriwali is a decent light-hearted film with good performances and conveys an important message. But do not expect the depth in this predictable story and smart writing is also missing here. The screenplay in the first half is less engaging that focuses on the importance of condom uses and safe sex, which we have already seen in Janhit Mein Jaari. The narrative is quite engaging in the second half when the film switched to the importance of sex education among teens and questions about “Why the male & female reproductive systems are optional in school exams”.

Rakul Preet has delivered a mature performance and she pulls off a taboo subject with ease. Sumeet Vyas is excellent as a supporting husband. Rajesh Tailang as Bhai ji got the well-written role and he has given an impressive performance. Prachee Shah Paandya got exactly the opposite, a crucial but underwritten role due to which the climax of the film loses its impact. Satish Kaushik was funny and played his part very well. Dolly Ahluwalia, Rakesh Bedi, Uday Vir Singh, and Riva Arora were just fine in their limited roles.
