MOVIE REVIEW: Bad Newz is a fun-filled entertainer that delves into the bizarre and rare comedic territory of heteropaternal superfecundation. This concept, previously seen in “Double Mommy” (2016) and the Brazilian web series “Desperate Lies” (2024), makes for an unconventional plot choice by director Anand Tiwari. While the storyline might seem absurd for the Indian audience, Anand manages to keep viewers hooked for most of the film. However, when compared to the super hit “Good Newwz,” this film falls short. It lacks the complete entertainer package of good music, comedy, drama, and emotions that “Good Newwz” delivered.
Ishita Moitra’s story is undoubtedly intriguing, providing a fresh and engaging narrative. But the screenplay, co-written by Moitra and Tarun Dudeja not have enough entertaining moments to keep the audience engaged. Dudeja’s dialogues are funny and witty. The film starts off strong, with the first half being cheerful and altogether fun. However, the second half is a mood killer, the comedy feels forced in some scenes, and while some jokes & moments work, the humor is generally a letdown. This shift results in a mixed bag overall. The music is a chartbuster, adding to the film’s appeal. Tauba Tauba, played during the end credits is terrific and visually appealing, with Vicky looking quite hot in the track. Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam is quirky, and Jaanam is sizzling, further enhancing the film’s entertainment value.
While it offers a unique and engaging plot with commendable performances and good music, it falls short in delivering consistent humor. Vicky Kaushal delivers a sharp screen presence and shines in comic & emotional sequences, effortlessly pulling off his character. Triptii Dimri brings freshness to her role, though she is a bit off in comic scenes, she excels in the emotional ones. Ammy Virk is decent, though somewhat overshadowed by Vicky, but still fun to watch. Sheeba Chadha and Neha Dhupia do well in their short roles. Unfortunately, Khayali Ram, intended to be funny, fails to raise laughs. Faisal Rashid is decent, while Ananya Panday and Neha Sharma were good in their cameos.
