MOVIE REVIEW: A Thrilling Ride That Falters Along the Way. Deva presents an intriguing premise that grips you in parts, but the overall execution remains inconsistent. The story, which revolves around Shahid Kapoor’s titular character, starts with promise but struggles to maintain a balanced narrative. The screenplay has some moments are crafted with tension and depth, others feel stretched and lack impact. The pacing of the film is another challenge.
Rosshan Andrrews’ direction is commendable. His ability to extract tension and build suspense is evident, but the inconsistent writing holds back the film from achieving its full potential. While Deva begins on an engaging note, the first half quickly becomes tedious. The prolonged setup leading to the interval tests the audience’s patience. The payoff comes in the second half, where the film finds some redemption with heightened tension and action. However, just when it seems like Deva is headed toward a satisfying conclusion, the climax feels underwhelming.
Shahid Kapoor delivers a stellar performance. Whether in action-packed sequences or moments of quiet intensity, Shahid proves once again why he excels in such roles. Pavail Gulati continues to impress with his acting skills. Pravessh Rana, in the role of Dev’s friend and senior gave a good performance. Pooja Hegde, unfortunately, is left with little to do. The romance between Dev and Diya is underdeveloped and lacks emotional depth. Girish Kulkarni & Upendra Limaye shines in their brief appearance. Kubbra Sait however, is heavily underutilized.
If you’re a fan of Shahid Kapoor and enjoy stylish thrillers with little action and intense moments, Deva might still be good watch. However, temper your expectations as the film doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential.
