Rajkummar Rao’s latest gangster drama Maalik has kicked off its theatrical journey with ₹ 4.02 Crore, a fair start at the domestic box office. Despite receiving mixed to lukewarm reviews from both critics and audiences, the film managed to pull in decent footfalls over its opening weekend, thanks largely to the star power of Rajkummar Rao and the continued appeal of the gangster genre.
On Saturday, collections saw a healthy jump of over 35%, with ₹ 5.45 crore coming in, thanks to improved occupancy in urban centers and multiplexes. On Sunday, the trend continued as Maalik earned ₹ 5.55 crore, showing strong hold in Tier-1 cities and metro audiences.
Hit ya Flop rated the movie as 2 out of 5 stars, labeling it “Below Average” and wrote, “It is yet another forgettable entry in the overpopulated gangster-politics crossover space. There is absolutely nothing in the storyline that hasn’t been done and done better in countless gangster films before it.”
