Inspiring. Magical. Entertainer. Laal Singh Chaddha is streaming now on Netflix.
Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha silently dropped on Netflix 8 weeks after its theatrical release on October 6th at midnight. It was a surprise for the viewers, given Khan’s earlier proclamations that the film wouldn’t hit OTT platforms before six months of its theatrical release.
The official Bollywood adaptation of the Academy Award-winner Forrest Gump had performed below par at the Indian box office, collecting less than ₹ 60 Crore in India and ₹ 130 Crore gross worldwide. On Netflix however, it has been the top-viewed film in India over the weekend of Oct 8th-9th. It ranked above Riteish Deshmukh’s romcom Plan A Plan B, Mila Kunis starrer Netflix film Luckiest Girl Alive, and regional Indian titles like Saakini Daakini and Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga.
Hit Ya Flop gave it 3 out of 5 stars & rated it as ‘Good’ and wrote “Film is filled with amazing performances, it is a faithful but quite lengthy adaptation of Forrest Gump”. Laal Singh Chaddha was made on a budget of ₹ 180 Crore, with another ₹ 35 Crore spent on print and publicity. It has fetched ₹ 80 Crore from Netflix and was valued at ₹ 40 Crore by Voot resulting in a recovery of Rs 120 crore. The satellite rights were sold to Sony for ₹ 40 Crore with music sold to T-Series for ₹ 15 Crore.
