PLOT: Medical student Kabir Singh falls obsessively in love with his junior Preeti and turns into an alcoholic surgeon when the love gets denied.
MOVIE REVIEW : Kabir Singh is an official remake of Telugu blockbuster movie Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in titular roles. Sandeep Reddy Vanga who has directed the original film has helmed the remake as well. He recreated the same impact here too and captures the essence of the original so well.
The first half of the film is very engaging and entertaining. It is the story of a heartbroken man on the path of self-destruction and Shahid Kapoor brilliantly played this character. He is terrific and delivers his career-best performance after Haider (2014). The impressive performance by him will take you through a ride of emotions, compassion, aggression and romance.
Post interval the film gets a bit dragging and the editing is a bit abrupt at certain places. The second half starts becoming repetitive and the pace of film gets affected by the runtime of 2 hours and 52 minutes. Kirara Advani got limited screen time, still she shines out in some scenes with few dialogues and lots of emotions. She manages to hold viewers attention to her performance very well and will leave you with teary eyes in the climax.
Soham Majumdar as Shahid’s close friend Shiva got a well-written and memorable role. The rest of the supporting cast including Arjan Bajwa, Nikita Dutta, Suresh Oberoi, Adil Hussain and Kamini Kaushal delivers a decent performance.
The background score and songs are a great advantage to this film. The music of the film compliments the narrative with its soulful renditions in the background. After Gully Boy, Kabir Singh is also added in the list of best album of this year. Songs like Bekhayali, Kaise Hua and Tujhe Kitna Chahne Lage are already chartbusters and treat for music lovers.
Overall Hit ya Flop Rating: 3.4 out of 5
