Despite of good reviews, Taapsee Pannu starrer Game Over had a poor start at the Indian box office. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 0.97 Crore. The thriller film has collected ₹ 4.95 Crore (all version) within three days of its release. The film received positive reviews from the most of the critics, garnering praise for Taapsee’s performance and Ashwin’s direction.
The movie is written by Ashwin Saravanan & Kaavya Ramkumar and directed by Ashwin Saravanan. Produced jointly by Y NOT Studios & Reliance Entertainment and presented by Anurag Kashyap. Principal photography commenced on 10th October 2018 and shooting was wrapped up on 14th December 2018.
The official trailer of the film was released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu on 30 May 2019. The Tamil trailer was launched by Dhanush and the Telugu trailer was launched by Rana Daggubati. The film marks the return of actress in Kollywood after a brief hiatus of four years. She went under intense training playing a person on wheel chair. The working title of the film was Mario. Initially, the character Swapna was supposed to sport a Mario tattoo on her wrist. It was later changed to a joystick.
Game Over got released across 500+ screens (approx) in India and it is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 14 Crore including the Production cost and Prints & Advertising Cost.
