Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Article 15 had a good start at the Indian box office. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 5.02 Crore and emerges as Ayushmann’s second highest opening after Badhaai Ho (₹ 7.35 Crore). The crime drama film has collected ₹ 20.04 Crore in India within three days of its release, beats Andha Dhun (₹ 15 Crore) & becomes as Ayushmann Khurrana second highest weekend opener after Badhaai Ho (₹ 45.70 Crore).
The movie is directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced jointly by Zee Studios and Benaras Media Works. It is by written Gaurav Solanki and Anubhav Sinha. The movie also starring Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Ashish Verma, Sushil Pandey, Ronjini Chakraborty, Nassar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Sumbul Touqeer.
The film is based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. While not based on one specific event, the film is inspired by multiple true life events including 2014 Badaun gang rape allegations and 2016 Una flogging incident.
It was selected as the opening film for the 10th edition of London Indian Film Festival to be premiered on 20th June. Article 15 got released across 1500+ screens in India. It is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 28 Crore including the Production cost ₹ 20 Crore and Prints & Advertising Cost of ₹ 8 Crore.
