MOVIE REVIEW: Hats off to the makers for successfully delivering a larger-than-life spectacle Brahmastra to the Indian audience. The movie is a treat for cinema-goers. The film sets up its premise with Amitabh Bachchan’s voice-over taking us through ancient mythology and introductions of the various powerful Astras. Ayan Mukerji’s direction not only excels in the romantic but in the action sequences as well.
The film is a package of top-notch VFX, an enthralling background score, a unique storyline, and good performances. But it lacks in some areas too, the editing, screenplay in the second half, and some character & portions are remained unexplored which can quite disappoint the viewers. The runtime of 2 hours and 45 minutes will surely affect the overall impact of the film.
The first half is engaging and it offers many WOW moments. The second half will initially test your patience but gradually picks up well. Although the climax fight seems a bit stretched but it is the biggest highlight of the film with an announcement of its sequel Brahmāstra: Part Two – Dev at the end. The impact would have been more substantial if some unnecessary parts were edited well, especially in the second half, the length of the film could have been easily chopped off by 15-20 minutes.
Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo appearance at the beginning gives the film a good start. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt delivered excellent performances. Ranbir’s chemistry with Alia was endearing. Mouni Roy as Junoon is a surprise package. Amitabh Bachchan’s screen presence and dialogue delivery are impressive. Nagarjuna Akkineni got a well-written short role and he delivered an impactful performance. Other supporting actors were decent in their parts
Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva Movie Rating:
Direction 3/5
Acting 3.5/5
Cinematography + VFX 4/5
Story 3.5/5
Screenplay 2.5/5
Overall Hit ya Flop Rating: 3.3 out of 5 Stars (Good)
