Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par has translated into a strong opening weekend at the Indian box office. Despite being a remake and offering a familiar narrative, the film has won over family audiences and those looking for feel-good, emotional cinema and the numbers clearly reflect that.
Sitaare Zameen Par opened with a decent ₹10.70 Crore on Friday, thanks to Aamir Khan’s star power and the emotional appeal of the film’s story. However, what truly makes the film’s performance impressive is the significant growth it showed over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday collections jumped by an incredible 85%, pulling in ₹19.90 crore as positive word-of-mouth began to circulate. Sunday saw further momentum, with the film raking in ₹26.70 crore.
With ₹57.30 crore already in the bag by the end of its first weekend from 3000+ screen in India, Sitaare Zameen Par has already recovered more than 63% of its production cost of ₹90 crore. Given the film’s positive audience reception and lack of strong competition in the coming week, it is well-positioned to maintain steady collections over the weekdays. If the film can hold well on Monday and Tuesday, crossing the ₹100 crore mark in Week 1 is very much in reach.
Hit ya Flop rated the movie as 3.3 out of 5 stars, labeling it “Good” and wrote, “Aamir Khan returns to the silver screen with a film that wears its heart on its sleeve. While Sitaare Zameen Par offers nothing path-breaking in terms of plot or narrative structure, it succeeds in delivering a feel-good experience. The film’s emotional tone is balanced well with laughter, making it suitable for family viewing.”
