Samrat Prithviraj starring Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt, Sonu Sood, Manav Vij, Ashutosh Rana, and Sakshi Tanwar had a low first week and it will continue to struggle at the box office. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 10.70 Crore. The historical action drama film has collected ₹ 55.05 Crore in India and ₹ 70 Crore gross (approx.) worldwide within seven days of its release. Due to zero occupancies, the shows are getting canceled in many cities, now the film has no chance of hitting the ₹ 100 Crore mark.
The movie is directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. The film is based on Prithviraj Raso, a Braj language epic poem about the life of Prithviraj Chauhan, a king from the Chahamana dynasty. Originally titled Prithviraj, the film was renamed Samrat Prithviraj following a court litigation a week ahead of its scheduled release. The film was released on 3rd June 2022 in 2D and IMAX formats. The movie was also declared tax-free in several states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Hit Ya Flop gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars and rated it as ‘Average’. Samrat Prithviraj was released across 4950 screens which include 3750 in India and 1200 screens overseas, the widest release ever for Akshay Kumar. It is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 300 Crore including the Production and Prints & Advertising Cost.
