MOVIE REVIEW: Merry Christmas, based on Frédéric Dard’s novel ‘Le Monte-Charge,’ is a blend of unconventional and gripping storytelling. Sriram Raghavan’s direction is excellent. However, the film falters with an abrupt finale that catches viewers off guard. The climax feels unexpected for such an intriguing story, leaving some in the audience wanting more closure or a different resolution.

The film’s slow pace can be a considerable test of patience for some viewers. The first half, particularly the initial 15-20 minutes, tests the audience’s patience. Ideally, a trimmed runtime of 2 hours would have served the film better, eliminating unnecessary stretches contributing to the slow pace. Post-interval, the film takes a thrilling turn with numerous amusing and unexpected developments, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. The screenplay is smooth and easygoing, making it accessible to a wider audience.

Vijay Sethupathi’s character is adorned with good and witty dialogues. As always, his performance is commendable, adding depth to the narrative. Katrina Kaif’s character undergoes a spectrum of emotions, and her adaptation to each one is a testament to her acting prowess. Vinay Pathak and the other supporting actors were fine in their roles. Merry Christmas holds a niche appeal and may not resonate with the mass audience. The unconventional storytelling and compelling performances make it a worthwhile watch for those who appreciate a unique cinematic experience.
