MOVIE REVIEW: A fun & watchable entertainer! LOVEYAPA, a Hindi adaptation of the Tamil hit LOVE TODAY (2022), attempts to recreate the same magic with a fresh cast. The premise is about a young couple exchanging phones for a day, leading to chaos has immense scope for humor & drama. The screenplay capitalizes on these situations, delivering some laugh-out-loud moments along with moments of intense friction between the leads. However, while the humor and conflict keep the film engaging, the writing stumbles at times.
Director Advait Chandan, known for his work on Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha, helms the film with a steady hand. His direction is decent and keeps the narrative flowing smoothly. The film remains entertaining while it lasts, but it doesn’t leave a lasting impact. The first half has engaging premise with consistent humor. The climax feels a bit underwhelming after all the build-up.
The lead actors, while decent, don’t bring anything exceptional to their roles. Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor, both deliver performances that align well with their characters, but neither manages to elevate the material to another level. The supporting cast, however, shines brightly. Ashutosh Rana is brilliant. Kiku Sharda steals the show with his performance.
