Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt starrer Kalank had a good start at the Indian box office and got the highest opening of this year. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 21.60 Crore and also emerges as the biggest opener for Varun & Alia. The period drama film has collected ₹ 54.40 Crore in India and ₹ 84.54 Crore gross worldwide within four days of its release.
The movie also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit and Kunal Kemmu. The film is directed by Robbie Grewal and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala & Fox Star Studios. It is a period drama set in 1945 in the pre-independence British era. The film has failed to impress the audience and received mixed reviews with average ratings from most of the critics due to which it faces a huge drop in collections.
Kalank got released across 5300 screens worldwide which includes 4000 screens in India and 1300 screens in overseas, making it the widest Bollywood release of 2019 so far. It is made on a budget of ₹ 150 Crore including the Production cost and Prints & Advertising Cost.
