Bareilly Ki Barfi Movie Review

PLOT : Bitti Mishra is a young contemporary girl in Bareilly, who is the apple of her father’s eye. Like most Indian mothers, Bitti’s mother wants to see her daughter get married to a nice man. Bitti however wants a husband who understands her and she’s found that special someone when she reads a book called ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and finds herself described and accepted in the pages of the book. She longs to meet the writer and thus one day decides to search for the supposed writer of the book, Pritam Vidrohi. On her search she crosses paths with Chirag Dubey, who owns a printing press and who helped publish the book. What Bitti doesn’t know, however, is that Chirag is, in fact, the true author of the book.

MOVIE REVIEW : Director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari who made her directorial debut with the 2016 comedy drama Nil Battey Sannata. The film garnered critical acclaim and she went on to direct it’s Tamil remake entitled Amma Kanakku. Here in Bareilly Ki Barfi she showcased an outdated love triangle story with some good moments and punch lines but the makers failed as a whole to deliver a compelling comedy film.

Nitesh Tiwari who directed and wrote the screenplay for Dangal has also written screenplay of this film but he couldn’t create his magic here. This is a thin script powered by some decent performances. Javed Akhtar was roped in as narrator in the film, his voice-over introducing the characters and situations of the film is very breezy.

Kriti Sanon has done a justice to her role of young contemporary girl and well portraits a girl who is a casual smoker, watches English movies and loves to do break dance. Ayushmann Khurrana has also given good performance and Rajkummar Rao once again showed that he is one of the most effortless actors in Bollywood. It is always a delight to watch him, whenever he comes on the screen.

Toilet Ek Prem Katha is still running successfully at the box office and it will surly affect the collection of Bareilly Ki Barfi as it will get less number of screens.

Songs are good especially Sweety Tera Drama and Twist Kamariya are good peppy numbers.
