MOVIE REVIEW: A remake of the 8-year-old Tamil blockbuster Theri, Baby John is a mass entertainer with grand visuals, powerful performances, and adrenaline-pumping moments. However, it falters in some areas due to its outmoded storyline and the occasional misstep in execution.

While director Kalees infuses the screenplay with moments of grandeur and mass appeal, the core story feels like a missed opportunity for reinvention. His direction leans heavily into commercial filmmaking, creating a visual spectacle that caters to fans of masala cinema. Atlee’s writing, though occasionally predictable, delivers several clap-worthy lines that amplify the film’s mass appeal. Pre-interval has a high-octane emotional and action sequence provides a pulsating experience that elevates the film.

Varun Dhawan’s energetic performance is the backbone of Baby John, excelling in both the heartwarming father-daughter moments and the high-octane action scenes. His chemistry with child actor Zara Zyanna is a treat to watch. Keerthy Suresh makes a confident & stunning Bollywood debut. Wamiqa Gabbi shines in a supporting role. Jackie Shroff nails the menacing antagonist persona, commanding attention every time he’s on screen. Rajpal Yadav surprises with stepping out of his comedic comfort zone. Salman Khan’s cameo is a delightful bonus, sure to elicit cheers from the audience.

Thaman S’s background score is another highlight, providing an electrifying undercurrent that keeps the audience engaged. However, the editing in some sequences feeling sluggish. Fans of Varun Dhawan and lovers of masala cinema will find plenty to enjoy, but those seeking a fresh and modern story may leave wanting more.
