PLOT: Set in 1303 AD Medieval India, Padmaavat is the story of valor, honor, and obsession.
MOVIE REVIEW : Sanjay Leela Bhansali has successfully delivered the film which talks about the courage and pride of Rajput. Everyone should watch this film for Bhansali’s vision, to see the great cinematic experience and also for the great performances by the lead actors. SLB is undoubtedly one of the greatest directors of Bollywood.
The story of the film is based on 16th century fictionalised Awadhi language epic poem titled ‘Padmavat’ written by Sufi poet Malik Muhammed Jayasi. The poem is all about the life of a Rajput queen “Rani Padmavati/ Rani Padmini” who committed Jauhar, a Hindu custom of mass self-immolation by women to avoid capture, rape or enslavement.
The movie only belongs to Ranveer Singh, from his entry scene to the climax he has totally steals the show as Alauddin Khilji. Once again he has given the award-winning performance. No one can play his role better than him, once again he proved that he is a versatile actor and can never let down his fans.
Deepika and Shahid’s characters showing the valour of the Rajput community makes it their roles of a lifetime. Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh – the ruler of Mewar brings up a good actor in him and his dialogue delivery is really impressive. Deepika Padukone looks very convincing in her role, she portraits Singhal queen who later on becomes the wife of Ratan Singh and becomes the queen of Chittor. She looks gorgeous in every scene of the film, although she has less screen space than Ranveer but whenever she comes on the screen it is simply mesmerizing.
Jim Sarbh who plays Malik Kafur, a slave of Khilji has done a decent job but other supporting casts including Aditi Rao Hydari are average. The only minus point in the film is the run time of 2 hours and 45 minutes. The screenplay and editing could have been done better in the second half, it was less engaging to the viewers and simply dragged to the climax.
Watching Ghoomar on the big screen will be a treat for music lovers. Other songs are also good and go with the film storyline, watching Ranveer dance in khalbali song is a delight to watch.
Padmaavat is a salute and a tribute to the spirit, sacrifice, and glory of the Rajputs. The delay of the most awaited and controversial film has already created a huge expectation among the audience, which will surely work for its box office collections.
