Prahaar Box Office Collection: A Brilliant Film Struggles as Audiences Fail to Turn Up

We have failed as an audience again! Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam has recorded a disappointing opening weekend of ₹9.15 crore in India. It is sad to see a film like Prahaar led by Rajkummar Rao, struggling at the box office despite receiving a positive reviews. It raises an important question: are we, as audiences, giving enough support to films that prioritise strong writing, meaningful storytelling and performance-driven cinema?

With ₹9.15 crore in its first three days, Prahaar has surpassed the opening weekend collections of Rajkummar Rao’s Badhaai Do (₹7.82 crore) and HIT – The First Case (₹5.59 crore). However, the film’s overall box office performance remains underwhelming, and it needs stronger audience support to gain momentum during the weekdays. It is genuinely disappointing to see a film with such an important subject and strong performances struggling to attract audiences to theatres.

The film has also faced competition from multiple releases, including Jailer 2, Nayyi Navelli and Drishyam 3, among others. However, competition alone cannot explain the film’s performance. Sustained audience interest and stronger word of mouth are essential for a film to maintain its collections beyond the opening weekend.

Hit ya Flop rated film 4 out of 5 stars, calling it “Must Watch” and wrote “It is more than just a courtroom drama, it is an emotionally charged and significant cinematic portrayal of a national tragedy and the pursuit of justice. With brilliant writing, engaging screenplay, powerful performances, perfect casting and commendable direction, this is a film that deserves to be watched and discussed. ”
