MOVIE REVIEW: Pooja Meri Jaan takes up an uncomfortable and increasingly relevant subject, exploring obsession, rejection, blame and the different versions of truth that emerge when a woman simply chooses to say no. The film may not deliver the hard-hitting courtroom drama one might expect from its premise, but it certainly leaves enough behind to spark a conversation. The subject of Pooja Meri Jaan is undoubtedly relevant, but the film struggles to give that subject the structure and depth it deserves.

The biggest problem is clarity of thought. The film has something important to say, but it doesn’t always know how to say it effectively. Important issues require dialogues that challenge the audience and encourage them to think beyond the obvious. Pooja Meri Jaan gets the basic argument right but doesn’t explore it deeply enough. The courtroom portions had the potential to become the film’s biggest strength. However, they lack the dramatic weight required to truly elevate the narrative.

Mrunal Thakur delivers an effective performance. She brings vulnerability and conviction to the character. Huma Qureshi is dependable as always. Her courtroom interactions with Vijay Raaz, however, could have benefited from stronger writing and greater dramatic intensity. Vijay Raaz is, as usual, highly watchable. Vikram Singh Chauhan and other supporting cast is adequate, though the performances aren’t always enough to overcome the limitations of the writing.

Pooja Meri Jaan attempts to address obsession, rejection, consent and society’s tendency to blame women, but its treatment is considerably simpler than the complexity of the issues it takes on.

Pooja Meri Jaan Movie Rating:
Direction 2.5/5
Acting 3/5
Dialogues 3/5
