MOVIE REVIEW: Bhool Chuk Maaf tries to stand out by mixing the idea of time-loop with the desi charm of slice-of-life storytelling. Fans of Maddock Films’ earlier hits, may find this one underwhelming. Bhool Chuk Maaf feels like a step down in writing finesse. Unfortunately, while it occasionally hits the right notes, it largely fumbles due to an underwhelming script and a repetitive narrative structure.

The film starts off on an engaging note and the first half is packed with funny dialogues and situational humor, giving audiences a breezy ride. The second half nosedives into predictability. Karan Sharma, donning multiple hats as the writer, director, and screenwriter, fares better in direction. But it’s in the writing, particularly the screenplay and story arc, where the film falters.

Rajkummar Rao once again proves why he’s one of the most dependable actors of his generation. With his impeccable comic timing, he breathes life into a character that could have otherwise felt one-dimensional. Wamiqa Gabbi, in her first major lead role, is an absolute delight. She matches Rao’s energy with ease. Sanjay Mishra, in a brief appearance, leaves an indelible mark. The rest of the supporting cast also does a commendable job.

The film’s music, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, is perhaps its most forgettable element. The production design and cinematography complement the comic-fantasy tone, but the editing could have been tighter to reduce the repetitive drag of the second half. Its a watchable one-time affair for the performances, especially Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. But lower your expectations.
