WEB SERIES REVIEW: Special Ops 2 is a smart, stylish, and gripping continuation of India’s most successful espionage franchise. After the resounding success of Special Ops and the gripping prequel Special Ops 1.5 – The Himmat Singh Story, creator Neeraj Pandey returns to the espionage arena with Special Ops 2, and it’s safe to say: he’s back with a bang. Diving headfirst into the murky waters of cyber terrorism, global surveillance, and personal betrayal. The series falters slightly with mid-season pacing hiccups, a few underdeveloped subplots, and an antagonist arc that could’ve benefited from deeper backstory.
Neeraj Pandey’s storytelling instincts are back in full force. After underwhelming Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, he redeems himself here with a razor-sharp narrative that balances action with introspection. The choice to name episodes after days of the week gives the season a ticking-clock tension—each day escalating the stakes. Visually, the show is a treat. The cinematography captures the contrasting aesthetics of old-world European cities and gritty Indian locales with flair.
Kay Kay Menon, whose performance as Himmat Singh is nothing short of masterful. Whether he’s leading covert ops or facing moral dilemmas as a father, Menon carries every frame with unmatched gravitas. Karan Tacker returns brings youthful energy. Saiyami Kher and Muzammil Ibrahim deliver decent performance. Prakash Raj commands attention as the upright Subramanyam, while Tahir Raj Bhasin as the cerebral antagonist Sudheer Awasthi plays it quiet, calculated, and convincingly menacing. Vinay Pathak, Gautami Kapoor, Revathi Pillai, and Shikha Talsania provide solid supporting performance.
