Soorma starring Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu has closed its first week on a average note. The movie got an opening of ₹ 3.20 Crore and showed some impressive growth over the weekend. The movie directed by Shaad Ali has collected ₹ 21.21 Crore in seven days of its release.
The film is based on the life of Sandeep Singh, the international hockey player who was paralyzed and used a wheelchair for two years after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006. Fighting against all odds, Sandeep got back on his feet and made a comeback to international hockey in 2008. India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under his captaincy and went on to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. The story also mentions the contribution of his brother in his life who stood like a pillar of constant support during these hard times and also shows his girlfriend who left him.
The movie got released in 1435 screens worldwide which includes 1100 in India and 335 overseas. Soorma is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 25 Crore all inclusive of Production cost and Prints & Advertising Cost. It will be considered as a HIT if it crosses ₹35 Crore and will be considered as a Average film if it crosses ₹ 25 Crore.
