The first Bollywood film based on rappers, Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt has opened to an overwhelming response. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 19.40 Crore and emerges as Ranveer’s second biggest opener after Simmba (₹ 20.72 Crore). The musical drama film witnessing an impressive growth at the box office, collected ₹ 72.45 Crore in India and ₹ 117.85 Crore gross worldwide within four days of its release.
The movie also starring Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz, Kalki Koechlin, Amruta Subhash, Sheeba Chaddha and Vijay Varma in a supporting roles. The film is loosely based on the life of street rappers Divine and Naezy. All other rappers during the battle scenes are real rappers from the Indian Rap World and not actors. It is written by Zoya Akhtar & Reema Kagti and directed by Zoya Akhtar.
The film is doing exceptionally well in metro cities. It will soon cross the lifetime collection of Zoya Akhtar’s previous release Dil Dhadakne Do (₹ 76.88 Crore) and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (₹ 90.27 Crore) which the highest grosser for her till now.
Gully Boy got released across 4101 screens worldwide which includes 3350 screens in India and 751 screens in overseas. The movie is made on a budget of ₹ 75 Crore including the Production cost of ₹ 60 Crore and Prints & Advertising Cost of ₹ 15 Crore.
