PLOT: An IAS officer is arrested and taken to an abandoned house for interrogation by the authorities. The tables get turned when she is possessed by a spirit of the haunted house, one which is yearning for revenge.
Durgamati is a horror-thriller film directed by G. Ashok, which is a remake of his own Telugu-Tamil bilingual Hit film Bhaagamathie (2018). The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Akshay Kumar and Vikram Malhotra under T-Series, Cape of Good Films and Abundantia Entertainment.
The official announcement for the film was made on 30th November 2019. First shot was taken on 23th January 2020 in Madhya Pradesh and filming begun there on 30th January. On 23rd November 2020, the title of the film was changed to Durgamati from Durgavati.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was available to stream worldwide from 11th December 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.

MOVIE REVIEW: The major drawback of a remake movie is the comparison with the original one. Durgamati which is a cut & paste of Anushka Shetty starrer Bhaagamathie also suffers from the same. For those who haven’t watched Bhaagamathie, this remake might come across as a surprise.
The movie is engaging in bits and pieces, the political angle is well executed but falters in the horror sequences. G. Ashok’s Bollywood directorial debut is simple and pretty much average. Few scenes and unpredictable twists in the second half will surely hold the interest of viewers.
Despite the weak script, Bhumi Pednekar tried hard to excel in her performance but in comparison to Anushka Shetty’s impeccable act in Bhaagamathie, Bhumi’s performance and dialogue delivery looks dull. The makers also failed to do justice to the potential supporting casts, their performances are let down by underwritten roles and monotonous screenplay.
Cinematography is impressive, certain scenes are beautifully shot. Unnikrishnan P P’s editing could have been better.
