Mardaani 2 starring Rani Mukerji and Vishal Jethwa got a good start at the Indian box office. The movie began its theatrical run with ₹ 4.12 Crore and shows impressive growth on the weekend. The action thriller film has collected ₹ 18.15 Crore in India within three days of its release. It is performing better than Rani Mukerji‘s previous release Hichki (2018) and Mardaani (2014) which had collected ₹ 15.35 Crore and ₹ 14.46 Crore respectively in their opening weekend.
The movie also starring Vikram Singh Chauhan, Shruti Bapna, Rajesh Sharma, Deepika Amin, Tejaswi Singh Ahlawat, Sumit Nijhawan, Sunny Hinduja, Pratyaksh Rajbhatt, Anurag Sharma, Prasanna Ketkar and Richa Meena in supporting roles. The film is written by and directed by Gopi Puthran. It is produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films.
The film is inspired by true rape and murder accidents, the story is set in Kota, Rajasthan, and it revolves around Shivani, superintendent of police trying to nab a 21-year-old rapist Sunny. At the box office, it is clashed with The Body starring Rishi Kapoor, Emraan Hashmi, Sobhita Dhulipala and Vedhika which turns out to be a disaster and collected mere ₹ 2 Crore in its opening weekend.
Mardaani 2 got released across 2105 screens worldwide which includes 1600 screens in India and 505 in overseas. Also, it is being screened with English subtitles in South India. The movie is estimated to be made on a budget of ₹ 30 Crore including the Production cost and advertising cost which is higher than Mardaani which had a budget of ₹ 21 Crore.
